Thinking about all the time spent watching TV, playing games, or listening to music on the radio, it hits me square between the eyes that we need Literary Reawakening. I wanted to call it a revolution, but I don’t think literature needs to change. It’s our opinions about literature that need to change.
With the age of entertainment becoming so vivid and interactive right in front of us, why would we want to read a boring paperback book that just sits there. No flashing lights, no recoil when guns are shot, and no engagement to offer. Well, that last one isn’t entirely true. It’s really a matter of what your mind is willing to create. Or, we could call it creative imagination.
One of the HUGE downfalls to entertainment is it doesn’t engage our creative imagination. Sure, it engages imagination, but not our creative site. We simply mimic in our minds what we see in front of us. It’s more copying than anything. Letting our minds soak in TV is no good for our creative side.
I truly believe that we need to reawaken our creative abilities by allowing our minds to think for themselves. To create beautiful landscapes and story lines in our head. Filling in the spots that aren’t mentioned with what we can create from the incredible tissue and synapses of our brain. Lets get the neurons firing again. Pick up a book. Feel the paper on your fingers, and let your mind breathe.
