2010 is the last year for the space shuttle program. In some respects it’s sad. Every little boy at one time fantasizes about being an astronaut. Most guys will likely have a small part of them who’s sad to see the program end.
But the end of the shuttle program doesn’t mean the end of NASA. We can wait with great anticipation in what will come from the labs of NASA.
Although, there may be a better way. Considering the mass amounts of taxpayer money that is spent trying to get one shuttle into space (not to mention the whole program itself!), perhaps someone other than taxpayers should front the money.
Let’s privatize space travel, and let companies do the hard work in getting people into space. If you take a look at Virgin and the strides they’ve made in getting into space, it’s pretty amazing. Our best bet is probably to let the drive of competition and free enterprise get us to the ‘Final Frontier’. It would be much faster than the current means. No offense NASA.
